Matt practices corporate and commercial law, and also assists in labour and employment matters. Prior to joining Christie/Cummings, Matt was a cannabis executive working for both private and public companies in federally regulated cannabis production and provincially regulated cannabis retail. Prior to working in cannabis, Matt was a lawyer at the New York City office of a large Canadian law firm.
In his corporate and commercial law practices, Matt advises clients in mergers & acquisitions, organizing and structuring new and existing corporations, partnerships, and joint ventures, and drafting foundational documents, such as shareholder agreements and other corporate governance documents. Matt advises companies and individuals in labour and employment matters, such as assisting in the negotiation of employment contracts and resolving disputes between management, employees, and unions.
Matt grew up in Lindsay, Ontario, completed his undergraduate and masters degree at The Royal Military College of Canada, and then law school at Western University. As well as practicing law, Matt sits on the board of directors of a private cannabis licensed producer, and is an active sportsman, enjoying snowboarding, surfing and golf.
